The Dream
Years ago, when Kris and David were still living in Southern California, Kris dreamed of running a dude ranch. A place where guests stay in a ranching environment and experience “working a ranch” by helping out with the chores, riding horses, and other activities. After their children arrived, Kris’ dream faded into the background and life moved on.
Years later, with the kids grown up and moved out, the dream returned. Being a bit older, the dude ranch idea seemed a bit too ambitious, but what about a bed and breakfast inn? The idea had always been to give people a memorable experience by providing a wonderful, warm environment where they were welcomed like extended family. Kris and David thought long and hard before deciding to take the leap… they started looking for the right place.
Mount Shasta
Kris was familiar with the Mount Shasta area and felt it would be the perfect spot for their B&B. Ironically, the Mount Shasta Bed & Breakfast’s current location was the first place they visited on their search, but they agreed it would be too much work to transform it into their dream – the furnishings, decorations, and colors were all wrong – so they continued their search. They looked at fourteen more locations, but kept coming back to that first place. Yes, it would be a TON of work, but there was something about the Ranch they couldn’t quite put their finger on…it just felt right.
The Dream Come True
Their dream B&B has been years in the making – new paint, room remodels, all-new furniture and the tender loving care necessary to make it all come together into the unique experience it is now. David is, thankfully, a consummate handyman, taking care of everything from gardening to electrical to plumbing and even snow ploughing in the winter. Kris has the keen eye of a designer. She knew that antiques and fine wood furniture would be the foundation of “The Ranch” look and has spent years gathering, refurbishing, and commissioning the pieces to make that a reality. She also delights in providing first-class breakfasts that are so well-known that locals continue to ask if they can come in for breakfast. Sorry, guests only!
In the end, it is all about the people. “This is what we are meant to be doing.” says Kris. “We just love taking care of people – making them feel like part of our big family.”
We invite you to come experience The Ranch for yourself. Come get pampered in this wonderful location at the base of one of the most majestic mountains in the world.
